I did a lot of driving around on Thursday and Friday and the most of the roads were acceptable. School isn't free child care but SACC is especially designed for working parents so SACC should have been open for some of the time.


Agree. SACC could have been open at our school. Very frustrating.

As a teacher who is home with my kids during snow days, I would be happy to watch your kids once or twice in these situations. Just ask--you never know!

Our aftercare, which is located at our public elementary school, is open for those who are enrolled on most of the days that the school is closed. They were able to open this past Wednesday after clearing a drop off area in the parking lot.

At least in my experience, yes, that is unusual. Our before/after care (also at a non-public) explicitly says they are not a daycare (gee, really?) and thus, they are closed on days when school is not in session.

We pay $$$, but these days don't cost extra and I'm so grateful! They've been open since Wednesday morning

Yesterday, I returned from a doctor's appointment to find out that my neighbor left her eight year old home alone. The little girl was so thrilled when she heard a key turning in the lock of my apartment that she rushed and opened the door, thinking it was her mom returning. A quick run to the store is one thing, but to be gone 9, 10 hours is unfair to an ES age kid.

I have had to say "no" to snow camps this time for just this very reason. I have one 8yo whom I am bringing to the office. She reads in the empty office next to mine with the door closed. LUCKILY, my 3yo's daycare opened as of Wed. once the Fed. Govt. went back. WHEW WHEW WHEW.

I'm the OP, and after I found the $80/day one, I found one at the Claude Moore rec center which I think is $40/day, but my dd's like the expensive one a lot more - go figure. I just really can't take off right now, so I feel like it is job insurance.

How much are you paying for snow day camps? I found one my dd's like that is $80/day per kid for care from 9 am - 5 pm. That's reasonable right? It is just hard spending $160/day when I have all my usual bills to pay. Plus I just signed up for morning SACC to cover any unexpected 2 hour delays for an extra $335/month for both kids. This snow is so expensive!
