My 4th grader enjoyed the Nathan Hale novels. From that he moved to Percy Jackson / Rick Riordan books

He had previously did 39 clues as well read together in 2nd grade

Will he do nonfiction? My son enjoyed:
Code Talker: A Novel About the Navajo Marines of World War Two

Rick Atkinson has done some young readers adaptations of his work as has Laura Hildebrant.

Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder is about Laura's husband, Almanzo, when he was a boy. Great book.

Avi writes a lot of good historical fiction.

Thanks! I think he's read most of the you wouldn't want to be...and he's been enjoying Nathan hale a lot, but I'd prefer he read fewer graphic novels--it's currently the overwhelming majority of his reading, and I'd like him to understand how a story progresses without dialog!

My 10 yr old has been reading the Nathaniel Hale series - graphic novels. I second the "I Survived" series. He's read those, too.

How old is he?

The magic tree house series is getting a little too easy for my son, plus he's read them all. I loved the American Girl series and mysteries for my daughter, but they are pretty girly for a boy to read. Any suggestions of more gender neutral historical fiction? He reads the Who Was... Series, but I think he'd like some fiction as well.
