Cesar has that big pile of dirt in his yard for his dogs to dig in but I'm pretty sure he's divorced and lives in a fenced in desert hellscape of dog fur and Nature's Miracle so YMMV

When we got our estimated year old hound mutt, he was a digger. He once dug under our 8 ft. privacy fence and got stuck. We thought we fixed the problem, then he dug in the same spot, was able to get under the fence and ended up in our neighbor's bed as the back door was open. He was also a big chewer of furniture and rugs - I replaced our dining room rug from Crate & Barrel 4 times and never told my DH.
The good news he grew out of it!!! We gave him lots of chew bones, not rawhide and as it made him vomit everywhere, but the other chew bones and we walked him to death. Literally, we walk him 4-5 miles a day. He doesn't have the energy to dig anymore, but then again, he's now 6.
He's the best dog ever!!! He's so kind with young children, will sleep among their sleepovers, enjoys hanging with them, and plays tag with them. I wish he could live forever.

Our Dane was a digger when she was a pup. We just got her her own sandbox, and encouraged her to use it by hiding toys and treats in it.

Does anyone else have a "digger"? Is there any way to let a dog like this go to town but have our yard stay out of the line of fire?

We have a 9 m/o mutt with a strong hound dog background. We spent most of the Summer and the Fall teaching him NOT to dig. He mostly learned, and we thought we moved on.
However, with this snow, he's been able to dig into snow banks without restraint and it's made him the HAPPIEST DOG EVER!!!!
