It was not good at our school. They had one guy doing the class and a lot of kids, and there was no control at all. He wasn't able to help all of them, and the K kids were totally lost, other kids just ran around. We don't run it anymore.

How old is your child? My K'er loves it, but I don't think it would be engaging for an older child.
A little OT, but there isn't enough capacity in my child's school fir everyone who wants to do mad science -- they run a lottery each session. I'd be annoyed if they found space for a kid who didn't even go to the school. There are lots of science activities during the day for home schooling families.

Poorly run at our school. Must depend a lot on the individual. Heard there were some kids love.

This was some years back when DD was in elementary but the school had after-school Mad Science sessions (in blocks of maybe six lessons or so, can't recall) and she really enjoyed them.
They also used some parent volunteers (not to run things but mostly to have some adults around -- it allowed for more kids to participate and the adults could help with hands-on stuff). I did that several times and thought it was a good and engaging program, and I enjoyed the volunteering too. Consider asking if you can help out, if you want to see how it's run.
These are usually only a few sessions at a time so sign up for one set of sessions; it's not like it's a commitment for the entire school year. Let your kid get a taste of it.

Both my kids took Mad Science classes at elementary school and loved them. Also they attended one party which was run by the same people - which I was present for and it was great.

Our first grader did it in the fall and loved it. The kids do a different experiment every week and bring home something to do at home for fun as well.

We homeschool but my child is interested in taking these classes at a local elementary. Any experience with the class? Not the camp?
