Your neighborhood school sounds like a perfect fit. Get to see kids you child knows on the weekends too.

Unless your neighborhood kids are mean, entitled little snots. Which is what happened to us when I thought like you.

My shy child has blossomed at Ross. Very supportive environment.

+100. Our super shy 4 year old has turned into a talkative 6 year old while at ITS. The teachers are amazing and really take the time to get to know your kid and what works/doesn't work.

This might sound crazy but my kids have varying degrees of shyness and anxiety at times. We are at one of the BIG JKLM so lots of classes per grade. The good thing is - everyone can find their niche and everyone can get away from the people they don't like. So, don't necessarily think a small school is the answer. Sometimes a bigger one that keeps an eye on social dynamics can work wonders too. They can blend in better.

ITS has been amazing for my super shy dd. Everyone remarks how she has come out of her shell. Their approach is very encouraging while being non-shaming, and even at a young age children are handling social questions and disputes well by themselves.

Don't you think you need to tell us the age of your child?

Latin if you can get in by lottery. Small class sizes and everyone is meant to contribute - helped my shy son feel a part of his learning, versus hiding behind other loud talkers.

My child is very shy, but warms up in small groups and one on one. He also is a bit anxious. He is pretty bright and we are trying to figure out which DCPS would be a good fit.
