In Bethesda a teen quoted me $40. It took him over an hour. I paid him $100.

in the city, the price was based on the task rather than time. the kid who offered to shovel a car out for $20 ended up making ~$100 in an hour and a half. the kid who tried to charge $50 per car got nothing.

The teens would be very happy with this rate!

Next time, they'll set out their hourly rate in advance. I think it's fair to charge $15 per hour per kid when the snow is heavy and wet like it is.

Wow, $5/per kid/per hour is nowhere near enough...

I think that rate is fair, but this snow is NOT heavy or wet. It is light, fluffy snow that cannot be packed.

DH and I shoveled out my parents. 2 cars and a sidewalk. They live in a townhouse. It took us 2 hours to do it. I can't imagine that $10 would be worth the amount of time and effort. Heck read the post about paying the mothers helper $10/per hour to play with a 4 yr old. This is really $20/hr work and the kids will be earning every dime of it.

This. They are kids and not paying taxes.

My entire driveway took DH and I 2hrs, so maybe $25/hr?

My 13-year-old son and his friends have made themselves available for snow shoveling the past 2 days. They spent 4 hours shoveling on Saturday, and so far 5 hours today.

Some people are paying well, and others pretty modestly.

It's pretty hard work to shovel for 1-2 hours straight. What would you pay a group of 13-year-old boys to shovel for 1-2 hours straight? I figure it should pay more than babysitting or dog-walking, but want to make sure I am reasonable. Thx!
