Miami grad here. Class of 1993 (one year after Paul Ryan).

It's actually very preppy. Very white. A bit like U.Va demographically.

Pros: It's a strong undergraduate university. All the trappings of a major state research university, but fundamentally an undergraduate school. There are some really good programs. It once upon a time was considered to be the best public university in Ohio. In the late 1980s, it was dubbed one of the "Public Ivies" alongside William & Mary, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, etc.

Cons: About 10-15 years ago Miami did something weird with its tuition to behave more like a private school. The price tag shot up, although for in-state students there was a generous automatic scholarship. It's very homogenous, kind of a "bubble." Extremely conservative, extremely Greek-oriented. Problems with alcohol, sexual assault, etc. Similar profile in that was as U.Va. I'm not sure the academics are regarded as strongly as they were 25 years ago.

To answer OP's question, it's pretty selective. I don't think you have that great of a chance with a 3.2. Sorry.

I'm from Cincy and had a ton of friends go to Miami. Very easy school to get into, and pretty 'cushy' as PP said.

Miami were the local indian tribe.

Oxford is a cute college town and there is a big fraternity/sorority scene. Lots of people end up in Indianapolis or Cincy afterwards.

+1, so a 3.2 gpa should get you in.

My cousin had some kind of breakdown her freshman year at a top university. She was premed and found that she had to work much harder in college than high school at math, and she struggled with missing her high school boyfriend, who had broken up with her. She transferred out of the top university and followed her ex to Miami of Ohio, and even though he still wanted nothing to do with her, she loved Miami, where she joined a sorority and became an Elementary Education major. She had lots of free time for socializing and loved her time at Miami. She freely admits that it is a "cushy" (ie not academically rigorous) school, but that she valued the "work/life balance" more.

Large enough that you will find a spectrum of politics

This school has come to my attention recently, and it interests me . From what I hear it's a really preppy/WASPy school with strong academics( J Crew U!) This seems like my kind of school. How hard is it for an Out of State student to get in? Could I get in with a 3.2 GPA and 28 ACT? Would I fit in there?
