I wish I could have gotten myself up to shovel in the middle of the night. It's horrible out there now. SO MUCH snow. It's heavy for me.

Sorry but during a blizzard you are going to be disturbed by generators, plows, shovelers, blowers, etc. etc. Hardly one of the "better sleeping days of the year".

Personally, I have a heart condition. If I were to shovel, it would be every hour. However, I will just pay the neighbor kids when it is over

This is OP. He is a fitness fanatic and a young retiree--as in retired from venture capital--still has a kid in school and a wife who works. By saying he was retired I meant that he didn't have to go to a job. He runs, works out at a boutique fitness place in Bethesda, and does yoga. Not buying the heart explanation. I think the pp who said it was the challenge with OCD has got it right.

I shoveled 2x last night & the snow was neither heavy nor wet. I shovel b/c it's awesome to be outside in snow!

Op you are the idiot, not him. It was recommended on the news, that you shovel in parts. It's as simple as lifting a 5 lb shovel of light snow or 15 lbs of wet, heavy snow.

He's old. You must not realize this is what is safer for his heart. Apparently You'd rather him dead in the driveway so that you could not be inconvenienced by noise whrn you are sleeping.

Op, you don't know what this man's health is like. Maybe he has a sore back and can only lift small amounts of snow at a time. 24-30" might be impossible for him.

Or, maybe he simply prefers to shovel smaller amounts of snow rather than 30" at once.

He's smart. A couple neighbors shoveled last night around 10pm. I suggested DH might want to go out and join them, but that didn't happen. It's going to be tough shoveling today. There's a lot of flipping snow.

+1. It's also much safer if you are someone who is at an increased risk for a heart attack (such as, perhaps, a man old enough for retirement). You want smaller, lighter loads to take the stress off your heart.

My husband claimed he was going to get up periodically at night and clear the driveway with the snow blower. I had to help him see what a dick move running a snowblower at 2 am is.
