My cousin went and ended up at MCV and is now an orthopedic surgeon. We checked it out and visited there for our son as a Div III lacrosse school yet decided on MWC instead. He spent a weekend there. It was either lax or football, I've forgotten now. Liked the campus, beautiful drive, liked that it is located in Virginia. My son ultimately chose slightly closer to home and a lesser tuition.

Very strong Alumni network in the south. My son just graduated and Was accepted to a number of top notch grad programs including Duke, UVA, and Notre Dame. The all male aspect may give some students pause-- but don't worry there are plenty of girls at H-SC on the weekends. He absolutely loved the place.

I visited and loved it. Is HSC still as preppy/conservative as it used to be?

AKA don't be different--brown, black, gay, etc.

There are plenty of schools for people like that. Not every school has to be a diversity mill.

H-SC Grad here. I really recommend you visit the college. I loved it and so did most of my friends. The small, all male, student body creates a special brotherhood that you won't find at a large state school. It is truly a unique college experience where you will make a lot of great friends for life.

Not at all. The most recent college president was black-- he just left after 7 years to run a larger university. It is southern and fairly conservative but there are also plenty of liberals. All the demographics you wrote about are represented in the student body.

Define "good." It is not super well known. As far as academic reputation or opening doors based on school name alone, it won't get you very far. But, the alumni network, while not huge, is good.

On the whole, though, I would steer my son elsewhere.

I don't hear a lot about it, but the guys I know who went there love it. It's great if you want an all male environment.
