On a less literary note, I just finished everything that Craig Schaefer wrote. A supernatural heist series set in Las Vegas. Akin to the Dresden files.

I just finished the Nightingale over the MLK weekend and really liked it. It's about Nazi-occupied France and the human aspect of it. The big and little things people did to resist as well as the cruelty and heartlessness of some of the occupiers and sympathizers. I think the author does a really good job at bringing the characters and the scenery to life for the reader. It was difficult sometimes to keep my own emotions in check while reading some parts. At least once I had to step away and take a break.

Problem with All the Light is that it is too beautifully written that I was entranced by the writing and lost the story

Just finished Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. Story of a marriage told first from husband's perspective and then from wife's. I found the characters to be less than likeable but I still couldn't put it down. Very well-written and compelling. Would be good snowsotrm reading!

I also recently read (finally) All the Light We Cannot See. Set in France during WWII, story of a young girl and her father and how they made it through the war. Beautifully written and ultimately heartwarming. Would recommend it as well.

So, I'm placing an amazon order today and thought, why not order a good book I can sink into in case I'm stuck indoors this weekend. Anyone have any recommendations? What have you read lately that you loved, and if you don't mind providing a brief synopsis that would be helpful.
