If you are adopting out of foster care/special needs, generally you are able to keep the medicaid. Otherwise, it depends on the severity and income. SSI generally goes through the parents income. There are other waivers that are listed above and medicaid with varying qualifications. Many of us have to private pay what our insurance doesn't cover and its very expensive.

I used to live in DC then MD, I now live in Colorado.

Where do you live? All states have what's called a Katie Beckett waiver for Medicaid, where eligibility is based on disability and child's income. Different states have different eligibility requirements and waiting lists.

Does anyone have any insight/information on SSI for children? Does anyone know the income limits?

I'm single and looking at potentially adopting a 2 year old with CP. I was wondering about SSI to help with any medical costs. I'm trying to look at all angles, including finances, to decide whether or not to go through with the referral.
