My kids NW DCPS is full of the 2%.
Either make more $ or join the rest of us in public school.

And we don't have a million dollar mortgage, country club memberships, boats, fancy cars or vacation homes. None of that.

We are hoping dc gets in to a school in the 20k range. That is something we can manage.

I'm typically sensitive to people having issues
with paying high tuition to get a good education. I don't buy the "there are good public options," because there isn't for everyone. HOWEVER, I can't rationalize you how you are supposedly in the top 2% (whatwver that figure is) and can't afford full pay for multiple kids. Maybe give up some of your other luxuries? County club memberships, boats, vacation homes? If those things are more important to you than a private education so be it, but don't misconstrue where you choose to spend your money with not having it to spend at all.

You could choose to live in a more modest house and free up income for private school. Our house is a little $400,000 townhouse. We aren't top 2% but we are top 5% income.

You make plenty of money to have more options than most human beings on the planet. But that doesn't mean you don't still have to prioritize.

We are no where near 1 or 2%.

As far as being disturbed, I'm not. This is your option. Just as you elected to buy a million-dollar home, you can elect to send your children to private or public school. To me, it's that simple. All of us have options.

I'm not trying to be insensitive, but it's life. Plus, there are wonderful public schools. Your children don't have to attend private schools, do they? We have to rethink our priorities and desires and values, in my humble opinion.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that with an income in the top 2% of our country we still can not afford to send our two children to a top private ($35K+)? Basically, in order to afford those tuition bills for two or more kids (without handouts from grandparents or FA) we would have to be 1%ers. There is something wrong with these schools if they are raising their tuitions to a rate that only top 1% earners in our country can afford to send their children there - unless they get handouts from grandparents or financial aid.

Another disturbing fact - to send two children to top privates for 13 years (PreK-12th) costs approximately $1 million dollars. My mortgage is about that and we have 30yrs to pay it off not 13! And that doesn't even include college, which at this rate can easily be another $500K in four years for two kids. Imagine if you have three kids (which as everyone knows, is the new two)! These numbers just seem insane to me, and I grew up going to top privates! Things have definitely gotten way out of control! $1.5 million in 17 years is crazy! At this point, we would have to win the lottery to send our kids to top privates.
