Heh. PP here - we also have a gallery wall over the changing table, but none of the frames are within reach.

Both my kids had long curtains in their room from birth. Since they were there from the beginning they never played with them. That said, all kids are different.

I would wait until the kid is old enough to know not to do that, which will be a different age for each child. We did black out shades and a valance for the baby's room. When #1 was older (5th birthday), she got long drapes.

#2 is a wild woman, and would definitely pull the long curtains down, so none for her yet. At this rate, we'll reassess when she's around 30 The risk is pulling the curtains and the rod or brackets fall onto her head. That's very dangerous.

We're expecting #3, and will have to see what her long curtains horizon is

Yeah it's more important that your room is Pinterest approved than safe

We have long curtains in our bedrooms, including my 2yo DS' room. He likes to hide behind them but he's never tried to pull them down. To be on the safe side, we have the curtains attached with the clip rings, so if he tried, he'd just rip the curtain down but not the whole rod.

We had the short curtains in our nursery-I think they were 60 some inches. At 13 or 14 months the kid leaned out and over his crib rail, grabbed one of them and ripped the curtain rod and bracket out of the wall anchor along with the curtain. I had never considered this as a possibility--he's our second and just crazy compared to no. 1.

We have long curtains. A curtain is too big for a kid to wrap around their neck and choke--a blind cord is much more dangerous in that respect. They might pull up on them, sure, but that's not that dangerous. You can always loop the curtains up for a while. The biggest issue we have is that my kid hides behind them, but since her feet stick out the bottom, it's pretty easy to find her!

No, we have long curtains in my family room, and my kids are always pulling on them and hiding behind them.
I guess if they are cheap curtains, I wouldn't worry so much about it in a nursery.
I really wanted to do a wide navy/white horizontal stripe drape in my nursery, but the designer talked me out of it.
I still LOVE the look though.

Long blackout PB curtains in my 2 year olds nursery. Never been an issue. I mean worse thing he could do is pull them down.

And we have a kid who will swing from curtains and wrap herself in them and try to climb them. Not happy for many things, including the curtain rods! That comes after mobility of course. And there are definitely things you can do to tie them up, etc. But no way would it be safe with our kiddo to leave them there hanging. But you might have some issues with shorter ones as well (tip toes + arms = much longer reach than you'd ever expect) if you have a rambunctious trouble maker - though I'd think in that instance the issue is more damage to your house than safety. On the other hand, my kid has managed to injure herself in the most unexpected of ways. Upshot is she's still alive.

You can always hem them up later it have curtain ties and loop them around some to make them shorter. You may have a kid that likes to pull and wrap hem selves in curtains or you may have one that totally ignores them.

So many photos on Pinterest/Houzz/Project Nursery etc. show long curtains in the nursery, but I wonder if these are really practical/safe. I currently am planning on cordless roman shades-- I don't like short curtains, but should I reconsider long? My real thought is that eventually I'd like the nursery to be a place where baby can play independently for short periods, so planning ahead to make it as babyproof/toddlerproof as possible seem logical. What am I missing?
