Please. A new HVAC system can cost $20K. Not unusual for people not to have $20K in cash on hand that isn't earmarked already for other items.

I'd probably put an HVAC on my cc just so I could get the rewards points! Why pay cash when the credit card companies give you 2% back on purchases? I pay off the cc though in full.

hah yes. For some reason, poor people and huge purchases go hand in hand.

We have a rental townhouse property down the street from us that cost 1/3 our house price. Most of the people drive Audis, BMWs and nice cars and also many own boats and have cleaning ladies. In my sfh neighborhood, people drive 5-10 year old cars like Mazda, VW and Honda.

I can see someone doing this for the points and then paying it off in the first month. I can also see someone not wanting to liquidate funds when the stock market just took a dip, and putting something on a credit card instead.

Once you throw the $45K car in the mix, though, she sounds like a bit of a dumbass.

I have friends who make really dumb financial choices and then bitch about it. Makes me tired.
