Do you mean last year? I didn't think decisions were back until March?

My impression is that Field has become very competitive. I know of at least one very qualified student who was not admitted to the 9th grade this year. Ended up elsewhere and doing well, but Field was first choice.

Well I hope you are right, PP. The impression I have gotten from our pre-K-8 is that Field has become very hard to get into due to the increased number of applicants. My DC is applying for 9th and I hope she will get in, but we're not counting on anything.

The class has 10 fewer kids than normal. It is true that some qualified kids get rejected but I bet that is because the school assumed they would not enroll if they were accepted. It's very much about yield.

I do think, however, that Field's admissions are very much about "fit." The school says they actively seek out the quirky kids who will benefit from their approach and the kids from families that really "get" and appreciate Field's approach. My sense is that they are more likely to take the B student who clearly wants to go to Field because it's Field over the straight A kid who is also applying to Sidwell etc. They want to remain a unique school, and not become a "safety" for Sidwell wannabees

If you've got the 40000 you're in

Wishful thinking. Field has become very popular.

+1 I know many (5 or 6) kids that didn't get into Field recently that received acceptances to what DCUM would consider "top tier" privates.

I think they said admissions percentage was about 30% last year.

This year's 9th grade class is smaller than usual? What size are we talking about?

Hi,
Does anyone have a sense of how many spots are open for new students for the 9th grade?
TIA!
