We stayed there. The rooms were super nice and extremely large, and it was a short walk to the beach (basically you walked down stairs and then crossed a main road). The pool was on the small side for a luxery resort, but was nice enough, and there was a poolside bar and a splash area as well. It's not as nice as other Marriot resorts I've been to as far as the amenities, but I got the sense that you just don't have the space for that in downtown FLL. I don't think they had a full restaurnat on site, but there were restaurants in walking distance.

We stayed at that Ritz with our two year old within the past couple years. They were sooooo nice. I wouldn't call it particularly kid friendly, but the staff really was super nice and accommodating.

More recently we stayed at the Pelican Grand. It's not as luxury as the Ritz but it's way more affordable and more kid friendly in terms of the pool (bigger shallow end; lazy river). Also beach front. Farther from the strip and nothing in terms of restaurants that is walkable.

We've stayed at the Hilton Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale several times. I wouldn't describe it as luxury (i.e., not the Ritz), but it's a fairly new property and a notch above what you normally get with Hilton.

It's kid-friendly with a pretty sizable pool on a higher floor that overlooks the ocean, onsite restaurants, sandwich shop, etc. What we needed when we first went there with our then-1.5 year old was a suite with kitchen and the hotel does have those. It's well located, there's a CVS you can walk to in under 10 minutes, and I'm pretty sure almost all the rooms have at least a partial view of the ocean. Almost all of the hotels in Ft. L. are actually across the street from the beach but it's a quick walk and the sand is never crowded.

Only downsides are 1) there's nothing "luxury" about Ft. Lauderdale, but it's a good spot to come down from high-end taste if that's what you're used to, and 2) tall tower of a hotel that casts a shadow over the pool mid-afternoon.

This summer my extended family (inlaws, brother in law etc) will be visiting some family in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area. Does anyone have any recommendations of any high end resorts that are also child friendly (we will be bringing our then 1.5 year old)? We are looking for something on the water that will work for all of us (family with child, single people, grandparents who like high end things)

I know Ft. Lauderdale has come up here a bunch but I wasn't able to see what I was looking for in the search (for all the posters that give me crap about asking!)
