They are generally just trying to put your child at ease and get them to talk. So they might ask what book the child has read recently that she/he liked; what are the outside interests; what's the favorite class in school and why. Just pretty basic stuff.

OP no curve ball questions at GDS or Sidwell. Very straightforward. Didn't apply to Cathederal schools or Maret.

OP here. I realize it's no big deal. My child is a bit anxious so it helps her to have an idea of what's coming. I was just curious if people have encountered unusual questions.

To the PP who is worried that my DD is the competition for hers, no worries! We no longer live in the DC area.

Maybe you should considering getting a life...and stop being so mean spirited. This is a perfected legitimate question to ask. The more prepared you are for an interview, but more chances of making a good impression. Would you prepare like that for a job interview?? No different!!

My DD was asked what she liked to do on weekends.

Why do want to come to our fancy school over all the other fancy schools?

What is your favorite class?

What are your extracurricular activities?

These are 8th graders, they usually aren't going to ask too many hardballs.

OP: I don't think anyone will give you the answers without you giving out some more info (ie school, gender of your DC, assuming 9th grade application?) Because your DC is potentially a competitor to my DC.....
