We just switched our 5 and 8 year olds at the same time. (From 5 pt booster). Waited until younger one wasn't so squirmy.

6. because some of the other kids in the neighborhood made fun of him and called his seat a baby seat (thanks, kids!). Then every time he had to get in it he got very upset and complained about how awful and uncomfortable his other seat was. I made it through about 6 months of whining then gave up And went backless. He says it's more comfortable and didn't complain when we drove to FL recently. But I'm sure he'd say anything to not go back in the baby seat.

My daughter is 6 and we just moved from a 5 point harness to a full booster. I am guessing she will be in a backed booster for another year or two. I hate backless boosters. They are very uncomfortable.

Your child has to be minimum 8 years old AND 57" tall to get out of a booster.

Your child must have been huge then. In order to be out of a booster a child needs to be able to sit with their rear all the way in the bite of the seat, knees bent over the edge and feet flat on the floor. Plus the seatbelt has to be high on the thighs, not on the abdomen. FWIW, my large 11 year old is out of a booster in DH's Elantra. He is still in a booster in my Odyssey because he doesn't fit without one. My HUGE (and by huge I mean very very tall) 8 year old is still in a booster in both cars--she doesn't fit even a little bit without one.

We just transitioned my 7 and 9 year old girls out of the britax frontier to backless boosters. Now they complain that they aren't comfortable. My 7 year old is bigger than my 9 year old.

If I were a kid I would want to keep the HBB forever- such better support for sleeping!!!

High-back booster 6 1/2 for both kids. Backless eight for one kid at nine for the other.

I would wait till 8. A HBB gives kids more support and keeps them in position. Why rush?

We are contemplating the same thing. Our daughter is 5.5 years old and weighs a little over 50 lbs. She wants to be in a regular seat, but I'm more comfortable with her in a backed booster. I've researched the topic and find that there is a difference. Comfort is one. Our daughter looked so uncomfortable when we tried to take the back off. The second thing is support. That's the only real difference - support in the big car seat. It's just safer and there's no reason the change to a backless.

5 years old. I think he was about 45 lbs and 45 inches or so at that age.

7 for us. I can't remember the height and weight, but he was much bigger than required. He just hadn't been mature enough up until that point.

At what age, weight, and height, did you transition to a backless booster?
