PP, I know this is off topic from the OP's question but since your responded. Does JDS offer generous FA? Just curious because I have one in private (with LD) and grandparents pay. My youngest is asking to attend JDS but we haven't pursued it because we can't afford it.
NP. They do offer FA, and I think you should apply and try, especially if your kid is interested. It's a good school and community.

The title of the thread refers to private schools (as in all private schools), yet the OP only really seems concerned with JDS. If you think that any child can get into any private school, then you're an effin moron. Others here can inform you on your chances for JDS only.

^^ you also have a darn good inkling if your kid won't be getting into JDS. The admissions committee needs to coordinate with you to observe your child in their current school setting. If they're contacting you about the 3rd observation visit, there is reason for concern. In addition, we all run in the same community--school, JCC, synagogues. Nobody wants to upset a family. So admissions will ask for multiple meetings with the parents and advise them if their concerns as they go along.

It definitely depends on the school. I have heard of local private schools that have empty space this year. Primary day comes to mind.

I thought this was going to be a wait list versus outright rejection thread. If you really think private schools are going to be 'easy' to get into you're likely to be facing a rude awakening in March.

I think its a valid question. Especially since the recent recession. Some schools are hurting and less likely to turn people away, if they can squeeze a few more into the classrooms.

They will reject if the fit is wrong - this is especially true if there is a special need they cannot meet. JPDS rejects more because they have limited space.

We want to send out kids to the Jewish Day School (JDS). Is there any way they won't get in? Don't the schools want our money?
