Maybe also look at Bancroft. Not many (any?) OOB seats but probably no harder to get in than Eaton, and your child will get exposed to Spanish.

At the open house last year, the Eaton registrar said that most OOB kids come in at Kindergarten, and that there are few, if any, spots for PK4--even some OOB kids with sibs don't get in for PK4. So, I certainly wouldn't count on it.

If you are definitely going to send your child to Oyster, then I would look into Marie Reed dual language over Eaton.

Our child is at Eaton PK 4 now. I don't think any children got in OOB this year. At the initial lottery either 9 or 14 IB children were waitlisted, I can't recall precisely. Eventually I think most of them got in, but I'm not sure if all did. The boundary expanded for this school year and we ended up with several families who were previously IB for Stoddert I believe, whereas those couple of spots used to be available for OOB. The previous year the registrar had told me all IB were admitted and 2 OOB.

K is an expansion year for Eaton and even if they got 100% take up from all eligible neighborhood children there would still be OOB spots available at that point.

The PK4 lottery for Oyster is even worse than you heard. Approx. 34 spots TOTAL (10 for English speakers (all IB siblings these days) and the remaining 24 for Spanish speakers(a mix of IB and OOB). Eaton is much easier to get into for PK4, but it's still not guaranteed.
