Same story as most PP's-

First pregnancy, had an ultrasound at 6.4 weeks (by LMP), but OB dated to 5.4 weeks because there was just a sac, no yolk sac or fetal pole. I spent two weeks crying in bed after work thinking it was a blighted ovum, even thought my OB swore to me it was just too early to see anything else. That baby came roaring into the world at 38 weeks and is now home sick with an ear infection.

Second pregnancy, had an ultrasound at 7.2 weeks (by LMP), but this time I knew which day I'd gotten pregnant, which put the pregnancy at 6.3 weeks. Saw a heartbeat, but it was only 89 BMP. Am now 22 weeks with a healthy baby boy.

Moral of my story is that the earlier you are, the more iffy things are. At 5.4 weeks, not seeing a fetal pole or yolk sac does not spell doom. Keep us updated!

Both pregnancies I had u/s at 5.5 weeks - both times just saw a simple sac.

Saw heartbeat with both at 6.5 weeks.

I had one in the earlier part of 5w (my pregnancy was discovered during a fertility workup and I had no idea I was pregnant) ... just a black dot on the screen; no yolk sac, pole, or heartbeat.

Next Friday, Jan. 15 -- should be 7w1d by then. I'll be sure to update.

I had one at 5 weeks 6 days and saw a gestational sac and yolk sac. So much at this early stage depends on the quality of the equipment and the tech and even a day or so makes a huge difference. I wouldn't jump to worst case scenarios yet OP. When is your next scan?

Unfortunately, because I went through IVF, my dates are pretty certain. Although I guess my embryo could have implanted on the slightly later side.

When I was pg after years of infertility, I just kept repeating "Today I am pregnant" to myself. Hold on to that. I think you'll find the 7w u/s more reassuring.

Thank you for this. I'm trying to stay positive. I've had horrible luck in the last year (and also 4 IVFs) so I'm quick to jump to worst-case scenarios.

I had one done when i was 5w2d pregnant with my now 11 y.o. DD and you could just see the sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. It was just a bit too early. When I went back for the follow up all was well.

That early you're just determining the presence and location of the sac. I understand your concerns (I did multiple ivf's, and also actually had a blighted ovum pregnancy), but there's no reason for you to think something is wrong. Blighted ovum's are not common. I know you're scared, but so far all is good - your dr saw what he/she expected to see in a healthy pregnancy.

I had one at that time because of bleeding. They saw a gestational sac that appeared empty. I was told I would most likely miscarry in a few days. But a week later at the follow-up, there was a heartbeat (6.5 weeks)

So....it doesn't mean that the pregnancy isn't viable just because there isn't much to see at this early stage.

I had one and could see the baby and yolk sac and heard the heart beat. It was hard to get the baby away from the yolk sac though to get a clear view.

What were you able to see? I had one a couple days ago at 5w4d and the Dr only found the gestational sac (measuring on time) but no yolk sac or anything else. I'm really scared about the possibility of a blighted ovum. I have a follow up next Friday when I'll be just over 7 weeks.

This is an IVF pregnancy which is why I had such an early ultrasound.
