As per the Student Assignment and School Boundary implementation plan, "early action" access for in-boundary families in PK3 and PK4 will be provided at the following Title I schools for the 2016-2017 school year:

Aiton Elementary School
Amidon-Bowen Elementary School
Browne Education Campus
Bunker Hill Elementary School
Burroughs Elementary School
Drew Elementary School
Langdon Elementary School
Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School
Miner Elementary School
Noyes Elementary School
Stanton Elementary School
Turner Elementary School
Van Ness Elementary School (Opening for SY15-16!)

In order to gain “early action” access to the schools listed above, in-boundary families must submit a My School DC application to their in-boundary school by the lottery application deadline of March 1, 2016. If the child is matched with the in-boundary school, the family must enroll the student by the lottery enrollment deadline of May 2, 2016.

Note, if a student is matched with a PK3 or PK4 seat at a school ranked higher than the in-boundary school, the student will no longer qualify for “early action” access at the in-boundary school.


Van Ness Elementary School is the most desirable school on this list. It's probably the most difficult to get into as well.

most of those schools had some wait list, but I don't think any had IB families wait listed.

Unless you have 12 schools you prefer, it seems like a nice thing--list whatever schools you like best, then your IB school (or just your IB one if that's your favorite), and you know you're in somewhere. That's reassuring to parents and if it gets the IB percentage up at those schools, it's a good thing (for the schools, for traffic, for families who want to get in OOB at other schools, etc.)

Of course it is. These are smaller schools desperate for InBounds families. It gives a preference for PK3 and PK4 hoping they hook you before you head screaming for a Ward 5 or 7 charter.

These all look like schools with no waiting list, ever, so it seems like a ploy to develop interest. Not that I'm against it.

I read this piece from WTOP that indicates that 13 DCPS schools are fast-tracking pre-k enrollment to anyone who lives in boundaries, but couldn't find the list of schools on MySchool or DCPS.
