I think if you search Houzz for edgecomb grey you'll find some examples of things that are stylistically what you want, like potentially this:

The rug is red, not teal, but it is similarly THE bright accent in the room.

I like these guidelines on how to pick things that go together (one large scale pattern- your rug; one smaller scale pattern; one complementary color)

I can't quite tell if the carpet is teal and white or off-white. If it's white I'd go with gray, any shade. If off-white, I'd do beige/tan.

If it were me I'd keep the walls and furniture white and light, then do some coral or orange accents around the room, like a coral lamp and maybe a coral throw pillow.

Nice rug. I suggest you study the color wheel and decide whether you want to harmonize with similar colors or contrast with opposite colors.

For me it would depend on the wall color, floor color and what my favorite colors are. My living room walls are cream with a hint of pink - I would choose upholstery that brings out the pink (ie, a deeper pink, my favorite color) and contrasts with the rug. Any wood tone is fine.

I would get a modern leather sofa and use pillows with teal and coral as accents. The rug is really bold and you need something muted to tone it down. They grey sofa would work, too, if you don't want to do leather.

Thanks, these are helpful thoughts! I think I lean towards the modern/comfortable eclectic. Any recommendations based on that? Would a comfortable sofa in a "stone" color (very light gray, but not quite white because KIDS!) work? I do like color a lot (which I guess is obvious!) so I like the idea of pulling in corals or similar shades. Thanks.

I have tried searching in Pinterest. There are some ideas but I tend to get overwhelmed and am not good at envisioning combining things from more than one Pinterest photo. What I'd really love is advice from others who can just look at it and say "oh that would look great with X color of wood/metal coffee table" or "get throw pillows is X color/pattern to complement the rug". Does that make sense? I just don't have good judgment in coordinating stuff!!

It is quite bold and busy, so I'm really in need of advice on what to coordinate to go with it. I'd love ideas on sofa, accent chairs, side tables, media center, throw pillows, curtains, art - anything and everything! What colors? What wood tones or furniture colors? Coffee table? I'm also quite bad at mixing and matching furniture finishes, so ideas on that much appreciated
