If you haven't heard in 10 days, they probably are either not interested, or just collecting a pool to be ready in case new business comes in or they let someone go and need to fill an opening immediately.

One company took almost 12 months to contact me.

Agree it is usually never OP. Sorry.

OP, as some posters have stated, most likely, never. Sad as it is, but, I would guess there are 10 more qualified applicants than you, maybe 20 equal to you, and, easily 50 that have no business even applying. Employers have had the upper hand for a good 8+ years. They threw professionalism away in the process.

Listen to the HR manager. See if you can network to someone in the company that can give you a boost and bypass the screening process.

This is SO variable its hard to answer. Federal job I applied for recently I heard in RECORD time (weird). Some non-governmental things - it has taken weeks.

I'm a hiring manager and I screen resumes myself most of the time. I would say about 70-90% of candidates (depending on the job) I don't even respond to bc they either aren't qualified for the job or have terrible cover letters or resumes. For candidates who look promising, I generally will email within two weeks of an application. But that also depends on the job and our timing. Sometimes when I know I will have an opening soon, I'll post a job and collect applications for a while before screening.

I applied for a position online last Wednesday that I felt I was very qualified for. No response as of yet. I Have been at same company for 10+ years so am new to this. What has been response times from when you applied online to receiving that first call from HR? Thanks
