Do you wash your hair every day? That might be the problem. I have coarse, wavy hair, and if I wash my hair every day, it gets dried out. I wash every other day. I also use conditioner sparingly at the roots. The hair near your scalp gets more of the natural oils from your scalp, especially if you don't shampoo every day. I usually do the conditioner starting about an inch or so away from my scalp.

Also, I don't dry my hair completely with a blowdryer. I dry the roots and dry a little bit (enough so that it isn't weighed down wet). But I try to let it air dry as much as possible.

I do this at night.

I was using Suave Naturals Almond & Shea Butter and felt that was the best I could find at any price. I've recently tried going sulfate- and silicone-free, which has solved my greasy roots problem, but if you're into conventional products Suave really is the best.

Jessicurl Gentle Lather Shampoo is a good option. Also try Trader Joe's Spa Moisture Shampoo or Alba Plumeria Shampoo (cannot remember the whole title of the Alba one, but it is a favorite of mine).

I kid you not, this stuff is the best I have ever used by far. (I have done the Bumble and Bumble, deva curl, biolage, etc.etc.) It costs less than $3! I urge you to give this stuff a try before you throw down money on more expensive stuff.

OP here. For $3, I'm going to give this a try first - your post is convincing (especially since you say you've tried the expensive stuff).

I'll try some of the others listed here if this doesn't work. I'm interested in trying Ouidad... Any other reviews of these products or other suggestions?

Giovanni shampoo and conditioners are great for my curly hair. I use the Cherry Blossom & Rose Petals Shampoo (1x week) and Blackberry & Coconut Milk conditioner (co-wash 2x week).

I have curly hair and only use shampoo 2 or maybe 3 times a week, usually Garnier Fructis Daily Care because it's cheap, my husband uses it too, and I care more about conditioner.

Lately I've been using OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner or Aussie Moist Conditioner. I almost never blow dry, so that keeps my hair from drying out too.

I also use the burts bees stuff from WF. Pretty much anything that doesn't say volume On it. Since ether weighs the curls down.

I think using a no-poo is key if your issue is dryness.

I find it strange that you needed a ton of the Deva. I use the DevaCARE (not Curl) and barely need any after using a no-poo, which is the opposite of when I was using a regular line.

Ouidad is great. I like their styling products too.

Right now, I'm using (and love):

matrix biolage cleansing conditioner - it's a non-poo shampoo
matrix biolage defining gel cream for curly hair - leave in cream

I have also used Deva, which I felt was a little heavy. If you can find it, MopTop line is really good, but around the same price as Deva.

I have wavy/curly hair (more wavy than curly) and I have been using Frizz-Ease Dream Curls shampoo & conditioner (by John Frieda) for years now but my stylist says it makes my hair dry. I always loved it until recently. I didn't really think it dried my hair, but I guess I'm ready for a change.

I've tried Deva Curl products before, and I personally had to use a TON of conditioner and it made my face break out. Plus it's a bit pricey for me (although I'd probably pay that much if I loved it and I didn't have to use so much each time).

What shampoo/conditioner do you use?
