We had an awesome trip to Guatemala for a month when they were 9 and 11 - which are perfect ages for them to really enjoy, appreciate and remember the adventure stuff and daily life there.

Please tell me more about toddler friendly stuff in Playa....

We were there with a 5 and 7 year old this year and had a great time. I think you'd get more out of the experience if everyone was a bit older.

We went to Costa Rica with a 1 and 6 year old. Yes a lot of the adventure tourism type stuff we couldn't do, but we were not so into that stuff anyway. Loved spending time on the beach, exploring the towns on the Caribbean side, and taking walks in the rainforest and mountains. I think it's a great destination if you don't want to do a tour or resort. It's easy to travel around independently with kids, especially if you rent a car.

Not Central America, but playa del Carmen in Mexico is easy and toddler friendly.

We don't want a Disney vacation. We're looking for something culturally interesting for the parents but also kid friendly. We were originally thinking about Costa Rica but realized most of the jungle stuff is for elementary school age kids and older. Is there something else we're missing?
