Cutting diary from my diet has helped me significantly. Birth control seems to make it worse.

For my DS, the derm started with a low level antibiotic, facial wash and topical cream. After a few months of this process not working, he prescribed Acutane and it worked like a charm. Btw, I had purchased ProActive and other over the counter creams without any success.

Benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin worked for my young teen. Very reluctant to use birth control when she gets older, as I was on it for acne and ended up with a blood clot.

Dermatologist recommended Retin- A. It didn't work well and resulted in really dry skin. Just switched to Proactiv and it's looking promising.

My 13y.o.'s face cleared up with MotherDirt mist. Try a search here because I described it in detail. Search Mother Dirt or AO+

The short story is that there are good bacteria on our faces that live off of the oil or sweat we produce, and we wash them away when washing away dirt. So if you spray them back on, they'll keep one's face clear.

So she went from pretty bad pimples to just a few bumps-barely noticeable.

One had luck with solodyn (sp?), the other did not and takes bactrim.

It's not cysts, so no accutane. ( which I did 2x and it only helped for a few years each time)

It doesn't matter. Different skin types, different reactions. Some swear by Accutane, some wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Am taking my 13 yo to dermatologist on Monday for 1st visit. Acne has steadily worsened over last 6 months.
