Two things I've noticed about the older generation: the TV thing, what is with it ALWAYS on from first light to bedtime!! And the general chaos as you say, around the most simple decision or irrelevant choice. I love and get along with both my in-laws and my own folks but both sets do these things, so I guess it's just an older people thing. =)

?? The OP describes a situation in which the grandparents are proactively doing things with the kid that mom would never do - I'm sure they've love some space to put on cartoons without watching the clock.

But then again, I'm assuming they're normal grandparents who want some un-chaperoned time.

Not tonight Christmas Eve, or tomorrow, but beyond that --Head out, let DH watch the kids. You have Grandparents who want to watch your kid. It's also very nice if your DH could have some alone time with his parents. Go explore the town. Have an agenda of your own. If you can't take the car, rent one. Have your own wheels. If it can't be done this year, know what will make it better for future years. Hotel? Do you know anyone in the area you - just you - can visit. Can you combine this trip with somewhere else you want to go?

A week is way too long! Good luck. Just do your best.
