It's funny because my almost 6 year old is using my old and simple pedometer after he sees me wearing the vivofit. He wants to catch up to my steps. So, when we went to the park, we compared our steps and then I said, you better catch up so he started running around the field or jogging in place. When it gets to a high number, he gets excited. It also teaches him to read in thousands.

I really want to see how much they move in school, which I know it's not much. Too bad the 'toy' (he calls it) are not allowed in the ES.

OP here. The only info we have is our tracked steps. My son's has the ability to track his sleep but he's only done that twice, he doesent really like wearing it to bed.

Mine has my age and an incorrect weight. My son's has an age but it's incorrect, apparently 11 year olds can't create a fitbit acccount. Should I be concerned?

Just remember all the info the Fitbit generates is the property of Fitbit. The medical privacy laws do not apply. There have been cases where the info was used in court, by employers or some future business model.

OP again, I hit reply too soon. what's wrong with emphasizing fitness at an early age? My husband and I both value exercise and have regular routines. My kids both play a high level sport and my 16 year old is onhis own routine of push ups, pull ups and light weights ( we dont believe in any weights before 16 and only light at that age.)

My younger son who is 11 has just started becoming interested. He likes to jump rope and do sparring with my husband. We have a boxing sparring kit that includes the hitting pads and the boxing gloves.

We have never talked about weight or tracking it, we have only ever emphasized being active and healthy and not spending hours at a time on computer devices. When my young son expressed an interest in a fitbit I saw now problem.

You can both use the same dongle. My kids have fitbits. Ignore the asshole.

That's absolutely ridiculous.

He is 10. He has friends with them and when I purchased it the sales lady said her 7 year old has one. So, it's not unheard of.

How old is your son that he is getting a fitbit, yet doesn't have an email address, cell phone OR access to social media?

I already have a fitbit and my son is getting one for Christmas. Can we both use my doggle for syncing on our laptop? From my research I learned he will need his own Fitbit account, can I use my email address to create a 2nd account or will I need to use a different email address? Also, his friend has a fitbit, I'm not sure how they will be able to "friend" each other. My son does not have an email address. I'm not opposed to creating an email account for him if he needs it to a) create an account and/or b) find his friends. He's not on facebook or any other social media. He does not have a cell phone, anyone know if the fitbit app is available on the Amazone Fire? I'm assuming it should be since you can access the playstore on the Fire. I want to be prepared, I know he's going to want to find his friend and start tracking as soon as he gets it.
