My uncle travels a lot for work and he will try to see family if he is in their town. For example, he coming east for conference at National Harbor in January. He is flying into BWI. Over the course of the week, he will see his BIL & SIL in Baltimore, my sister and myself in DC and then he going to take the train up to Philly to see my parents after his conference is over and fly out of PHL.

My family? Absolutely. I'm really close with my cousins. DH is not in touch with his extended family and the only reason we would be in the shit hole towns his parents and sister live in would be to visit them.

Slightly different, but fwiw, I've had cousins come to DC and not even tell me they were here. I wouldn't have wanted to monopolize their visit, but would have been nice to grab dinner or something. My sister and I are like the only cousins who don't live in the same state, so we don't seen folks nearly enough as they see one another... we always make an effort to see them when traveling, and I find it annoying that they don't do the same.

If I can make it work, yes. If we're on vacation, always. My work trips, though, are generally short with a packed schedule (including evenings), so it's not always possible.

Depends on the purpose of the trip, how long I'm there, other commitments, how much I like the person...

I grew up in NYC. I occasionally make a quick trip there to see friends who make me happy.

The family members who don't make me happy, I don't tell them I'm there.

Depends on frequency of travel in that area; and it also depends how well you know that relative/like that relative/have anything to talk about, etc.

Cousins in NYC - sometimes
Cousins in San Francisco - not this last trip.
Friends who are like family in Paris - yes

I have some family in San Diego and I've been there a few times without seeing them or letting them know I was there. These are family I don't particularly like.

Yes, unless the timing makes it impossible.

Near my in-laws, yes. I usually stay in the condo they got for us.

Near my father, no. We're currently not talking.

If you are traveling for a day or two for example for a wedding or a work commitment or professional commitment and family live in that city, do you see them?
