Thanks. I'm glad to hear the treatments work. I'll have to trust the vet to know if I should put my dog through whatever treatment they recommend. He was fully immobile 4 weeks ago and I was ready to put him down. The vet felt meds would help his mobility as his X-rays showed a slight slipped disc and nothing serious. He got his mobility back to around 90%. I can tell his eyes are causing him pain and it's so hard to watch him deal with this. Thanks again for sharing your story.

Sorry - one last thing...on a happy note I wanted to report that at the end of the day, our dog's eyes healed almost completely. There are happy results out there after sometime grueling processes.

PP here. We moved from a otc type medication to a controlled narcotic pain killer for the dog after initial treatment didn't work. My dog is 8 and I felt like I was putting him through a lot though he is a super healthy, active boy outside the eye issues....I'm not sure how much a 16 yr old can take.

Sounds like you're doing everything possible for your pup - I hope the ophthalmologist has some good advise for you!

Thanks for your response. This is what i fear. My dog is 16+ yrs old and has some mobility issues as well. These ulcers are now causing vision issues and he hates the ointment application, and I'm not even sure it's getting in his eyes or doing anything. I'm going to bring him to an optimologist to get their opinion as he's treatment is from the vet. I'm hoping the optimologist can help more so than the vet and give him some more immediate relief. I feel like my poor dog is in pain even though he's on pain meds for arthritis.

My dog had ulcers in both eyes. Unfortunately the initial treatment of eyes drops 4x/day did not work so we had to move to more aggressive treatments of contacts and then adhesive eye bandage. The ulcers were painful so our dog was also on pain killers for nearly a month.

Treating the problem took nearly 2 months of weekly visits first to our local vet and then eventually to a specialist at South Paws.
