Subject: would this weird you out? in-laws took pictures of our house...
I'm 46 and I do the same thing. My memory is poor and I like to have visual reminders of places I've been.

My husband would flip a lid. It's a security issue.

Hmm it would probably bother me a little, the same invasion of privacy thing. When we first bought our house we took tons of pictures and showed extended family over the holidays, before we moved in. But it does seem a little weird for someone else to have them. Are they going to show them to their friends and family and gossip about your decorating choices? Probably nothing you can do about it, and not a huge deal, but I do agree that it is a little odd

Surprise, surprise. More manufactured outrage about inlaws in the family relationships forum...

Yes it would bother me. Even if you want to show to other people you should at least ask first.

It was their first time at your house, so probably they were very interested in it and that's a compliment to you. Think about it: If they had come to see you for the first time and paid zero attention to your home at all, never once even murmured, "Oh, this is nice" or whatever -- you would have noticed that too, and might have felt insulted.
The photos aren't how you would express interest in someone's home but your in-laws aren't you and your husband. Sure, maybe they want to show their friends your nice house and good taste and show off how their son's family is doing; parents do that and it's no harm. I don't think there's anything weird in that, or any hidden agenda behind it. It does tend to be something that older folks might do, and friends of my late mom's did things like that, usually when their adult kids were in a first home or new home. Nothing to worry about, unless they're somehow posting your home pictures all over the Internet.

OP here. I think that's what bothers me - it feels like my privacy has been invaded.

My parents have done the same to each of the homes we have lived in. It's fine, they just like to have a memory of the house (they don't live close by). My guess is that they never look at the photos after having them developed (they still do that...).

Haha my grandmother would do this. She took pictures of everywhere she stayed. When she died we found a zillion pictures of random lamps in hotel rooms and other people's guest rooms, etc. Must be an old person thing.

My MIL will almost definitely do this in a few weeks when she visits our new house.

No. They just want to show others. Are they Asian or Indian?

It's weird, but harmless.

My parents have done this, and then show the photos to other relatives and their friends.
I think it's odd.

... my in-laws traveled to stay with us, and then the kids, while we were gone. It was the first time to our house. They shared all their pictures with us later. Along with all the tourist pictures, I found a TON of pictures of the inside of our house - like every room from 5 different angles. No people.
