October birthday kids don't need a gap yr since they'll be the oldest in the classroom when they are sent on time.

I suggest either full-day gymnastics training - see the good boarding option here - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-T2PCAxL0gY , Czech immersion school, or building a house in West Virginia to cultivate some good manual labor skills and work ethic.

I had two October bday kids, and they just went to preschool that year, in the "Fours" class. That's how preschool programs are organized--the age of kids in Sept when school starts. WTH are you talking about, a gap year?

Using Malcolm Gladwell as a parenting expert to guide educational choices??

GET A GRIP before it is too late

Well, that too, but if OP's child has an October birthday, there really isn't a choice anyway.

I kept my Oct birthday child in a totally play based free choice nursery school and a slightly more academic but still play based immersion preschool. It worked out very well.

If there is one in Alexadria I would look at the Goddard School.
They have a really good reputation and they also focus on developing the whole child. Everyone I know who has sent their kids there for either pre-k or k were very happy.
