MV parent here-

Sorry to hear that there is a problem in PK, which I was not aware of. The issues in the K classes and the 2nd grade classes are more widely known.

Children jumping on tables, throwing chairs, acting out in frustration, biting and hitting others continually is not a good environment for anyone- including the kids affected as well as not. Same goes for the teachers- I can only imagine their stress.

Administration is trying to improve- but the reality is, how long does it take? And is your child's education going to be impacted in the long term over these concerns.

In my DC's class there is simply the mix of nice teachers- who happen to be inexperienced. Five months into the school year I have the expecation- as do others- that they would have a better grip on classroom management and the love and respect of their students. Our class simply has not gotten to that point yet, unfortunately.

The administration has taken some measures- but the impact is elusive.

As a parent I fully expect there to be good, bad and great years while DC is in school. Question is, when is it appropriate to act and make decisive decisions- enrolling elsewhere, rallying more support, identifing concerns?

I know two families complaining about problems, one in PK, the other in K. Seems like a key problem for both is inexperienced teachers.

As a parent at another charter school, let me give you some advice - there are negatives about your child's school (there are negatives about my child's school too). Best advice, address them head on - not everyone is a troll. If you treat each person as if they are actively interested, it is the best for your school and ALL charter schools.

To the OP, I'm not a MV parent, but I know from my neighbor who is that they have really worked this year to improve the issue and it seems things are getting better. Hopefully are more helpful MV parent will respond to you.

OP, I have heard of a few mumblings this year but not nearly as many as last year. I would ask the parents you know directly or the school at and next open house.

Been there two years and no issues that I know of in our class/grade (1st) but it has been brought up in school meetings (especially last year). There was one particularly tough class last year and some other incidents that folks felt the school wasn't addressing strongly enough. I've heard much less chatter this year on the discipline front so hopefully whatever steps they took are starting to work.

Not a troll. Genuinely interested because I'd like to apply (I know it's a crazy long shot but someone will get in) but am not sure what - if anything - is going on there with the discipline issues. I've heard from insiders and read on this board about discipline issues. I'm just trying to understand them.

Do a search and you will see previous threads on this. It was an issue and this year the school has hired a professional to address/resolve the issues.

I heard the same thing from a parent with a kid in 3rd grade (or so). I take things with a grain of salt when I hear them from 1 source, especially since some kids can be more sensitive to small things that wouldn't bother another kid, but it did sound like there was something happening. Just because a school is generally quite successful and popular doesn't mean that there can't be some rough edges. Kids are kids and none is perfect. I happen to have a kid who does not deal well with what others might deem to be typical kid misbehavior. If I were in the market for a school, which I'm not, I would pay close attention to a comment on this subject and then follow up by trying to see if there's a bigger issue or it's just one family's bad experience. MV can handle a hit and most people understand that all schools have difficult kids and situations that must be dealt with.
