No, I don't care about my job. I produce a quality work product, but I could care less about my place of employment and my coworkers. It's a hard reality to face, but remember, no one at work cares about you. You are replaceable. Focus on family and friends.

Work to live, not live to work.

Hah ouch. Well my attitude is if it's good enough for my boss it's good enough for me. I am not sure why that offends people like you, PP, but I know a lot of my co-workers share your enthusiasm for their "product"

OP here. A major issue in my line of work is that I am surrounded by people who have the opposite perspective. I do great work - according to my supervisors and bonu$e$ but lately I worry that I am a huge slacker or something. For example, I can't stand it when co-workers say they "have to" go into the office on weekends when I know for a fact they do not. What is their endgame? I get anxiety from these people.

Yeah, OP, I'm with you. I do my best at my job because I want to keep getting a paycheck, but honestly, I would chuck it all tomorrow if I won the lottery or something. It's not a calling, it's just a job.

Yes, I care very much. What I do makes a difference to the people in my office (I'm a manager, so I can make people's lives pleasant or unpleasant) and the projects I manage make a difference in health stats in developing countries. I care deeply. Doesn't mean I love going to work every day...but it makes it possible to go and not just coast.

You are not alone by any means. But many people do care about what they do for a large part of their lives. I thought most adults knew that already.

I do. I love my job in cancer research. My salary is good but nowhere near DCUM standards. And we all care passionately about our mission.

You're not alone but that's not everyone. I care about my job. Not necessarily the company but the project and delivering the best product to the customer (I like the customer) since I'm a contractor.
My friends in the sciences and medicine also care. Work extra to make awesome things happen. There are just different people and some are passionate about their jobs and some aren't. No one way to do it as long as you do a good earnest job.

Sounds like you need a new job. Is my work the most important thing in my life? Of course not. But I definitely care about the future of the company, and I enjoy my colleagues and take pride in the important work that my nonprofit accomplishes.
