Sounds like roseola. 3-4 days of high fever followed by the rash. Rash is a welcome sign, meaning the fever is gone and the child is no longer contagious. In our case it also meant DD was out of the woods for a seizure (had one day one of this horrid virus).

Yes, we had a similar rash, with no fever, after the 12-month vaccinations. We tested for measles, but not for rubella because it is so unlikely to occur in this country. Ultimately decided it was a viral rash.
(Interestingly, the titer for measles revealed that the original MMR had not worked -- that's actually why they re-vaccinate in elementary school, to catch the kids who don't react in the first go-round. So we did the MMR again, and saw no reaction that time. The lack of reaction the second time made the doc think the first rash was not a vax reaction. FYI the blood draw for the titer really sucks for a kid.)
Did the docs rule out reaction to the antibiotics? Amoxicilin gives me a measles-like rash (all over, not just on my torso).

Sorry, I did mean Roseola. If it's roseola, would he be contagious right now?
If his fever is gone, then he's not contagious anymore.

Rubella is all but eradicated in this country. The roseola virus is commonly called "baby's first fever". It is known for a very high fever followed by a rash after the fever breaks.
Do you know which shots he received a couple weeks ago? The MMR can cause a measles rash in about 5% of kids. One of my kids got it and it was quite a dense rash but it faded after a week or so.

DS was in the ER with a 105 fever on Friday, where they diagnosed him with a double ear infection and gave antibiotics for 10 days. He was feeling much better by Sunda and is back to normal now (not acting fussy, no fever), but yesterday he developed a rash on his trunk that looks just like a rubella or measles rash. I'm afraid it's rubella and am trying to get in at our pediatrician, but has anyone else had their kid get a rash like this and it be something else and not rubella?
I'm not that worried about actual measles, he's up to date on all vacs. He did have a reaction to his MMR and developed a fever and a rash just like this, and I took him to the pediatrician and they said it was just a reaction to the MMR vaccine.
He did receive his 15 month vacs a little less than 2 weeks ago.
