My 6th grader still wears brights, but has started incorporating more jeans and black/grey lately. I think its a middle school/winter/matching thing.

But don't worry, your DD sounds completely ok.

Nanny here. I wear solid bright colors paired with naturals/neutrals while I'm working, but while I'm not working it's all naturals/neutrals.

Oh, I see. My guess is she's probably wanting to appear older ( in a good way )and less like a little girl and dress more like her peers. I wouldn't worry.

She has sports bras in black and dark gray so I'm sure she'll wear one of those under the thin black t-shirt.

Not knowing anything else about your daughter, I wouldn't think it's a problem. Also, you're an awesome dad for posting attention to this type of detail. Honestly I'd be more concerned about the thin T Shirt if anything.

That's my color palate at 30. I can mix and match easier.

Totally normal color palette for a teen.

This is DC. We only wear black, white, gray and occasionally pinstripes or MAYBE a splash of red, maybe teal, in a scarf or a blouse under a black suit. She's catching on early.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My favorite color to wear is gray and in h.s. my mom kept accusing me of being depressed b/c I like to wear the color.

It's fine. 7th grade is moody.

My seventh grader called me tonight asking if i could pick her up at the train so she wouldn't have to walk home in the dark, since her mom was bartending. So I rushed to meet her where she got off the train, and on our way to her house stopped at Old Navy. Last time I was helping DD with laundry we saw almost all her t-shirts were too short, so I wanted to look into getting her some new, longer ones.

In general DD's mom and I are on the same page with clothing. DD is naturally fairly conservative so we let her pick whatever she wants. She picked, a tissue-thin black shirt, a grey t-shirt, a black & white flannel shirt, and a grey sweatshirt, then a pair of grey and black fuzzy socks. She seems just as happy as always (which is pretty happy) and even joked about how her color palette is kind of bland. But is she dressing on the outside how she feels on the inside? Or is this just a trend and I don't know that bc she's the only girl her age I know? When I picked her up today she was wearing dark blue jeans and a dark grey sweatshirt with a mint green t-shirt underneath. Her pjs are much more colorful - is it possible she thinks color isn't cool right now?
