Huge fan of the IUD and the Caya diaphragm-- it is one size fits all and you don't need to have it fitted! Just as easy as a Diva Cup.

I tried to get a diaphragm a couple years ago, and the OB was judgy and pretty much refused. I was so pissed I never went back or explored it further.

44 here, had a baby at 43 (and others way before that lol).

Ladies, I have one word- DIAPHRAGM!!!

It's awesome. Cheap, easy (once you get used to it, which is easy also) and non-hormonal and non-invasive. Immediately reversible i.e. dont put it in if you TTC.

We also did not want anything permanent nor hormonal.

NP here. I had periods on the pill but don't have them now that I have a Mirena.

It worked for 37 years.

Never done hormonal BC, never will.
Tubal / vasectomy too permanent.

We are using condoms until DH gets his vasectomy this spring.

My doc had difficulty inserting an IUD, not sure why - I had 2 prior c/s and never had a vaginal delivery. Could that be why? It was an unpleasant experience and ultimately did not succeed.

Honestly, I don't have a solution! I hate being on the pill, and IUD's scare me because of some other issues I've had. Doubt DH will get a vasectomy, and I'm not sure I want to be THAT permanent yet.

Condoms and a prayer, most likely.

I plan to be done having kids after this pregnancy and my plan for BC is an IUD til I don't need BC anymore. I've had Mirenas between pregnancies and been very happy with almost nonexistent periods. The string is no big deal for me or DH as others have said.

I'm almost 38 and have an IUD, as do most of my friends. The string doesn't hang down like youre thinking – it is clipped and barely extends past your cervix. My husband can't notice it. And it is good for 10 years. I too was not willing to get a tubal until I was 100% sure I felt I was too old to realistically be pregnant just in case the worst happens to one of my children or something equally awful and DH felt the same about a vasectomy.

I will be a few weeks away from age 39 when I deliver what will be our last child. Since I'm already going to be having a c-section, the doc asked if I want a tubal ligation, but I do not. I don't feel like I have that many more years of realistically becoming pregnant, although it does seem that every few weeks a woman comes here to post that she has a oops pregnancy at age 43 or so. And I'm wondering, do I really need to worry about preventing a pregnancy at age 46, 47, 48?

I'm really not into the idea of continuing hormonal birth control. The string hanging into my vagina freaks me out with an IUD, and tubal ligation seems so drastic. I think DH will just get a vasectomy.

How long do other AMA moms continue to use birth control? Anyone just chancing it after a certain point?
