I just switched from James River to the all equities fund. I should have realized sooner that James River was 30% in bonds. My kid is only 3, so I want to be pretty aggressive.

we didn't do prepaid because I didn't want my daughter to feel pressure to go to an in-state school. though I'd love for her to go to UVA.

The target-date fund has done really well for us - far better than the other 4 funds in which we invested. I basically just spread the money around between 5 funds, watched them grow for a couple years, and then any increased funding went to the fund that had performed best. (So I started out with $50/month in each fund, and now they all get $50/month except for the one that gets $100/mo.)

U.VA is around $29,000 a year for in-state tuition and room and board.

We've been happy with the CollegeAmerica 529 plan in VA. Decent return on investment, and they have been easy to deal with for changes and disbursements.

I'm trying to decide on a plan for my now 4 year old. Ut am overwhelmed by the choices. Any recommendations/ thoughts on the 529 options offered in VA? I have heard that the pre paid plans are not the way to go but haven't heard a good explanation as to why? Thank you in advance.
