That seems like a lot for just taking down a wall. You need a plumber to get the lines set up in the garage, so I am surprised the contractor was able to give you a full quote. We recently took down a wall between our kitchen and dining room and the cost for that was between 5-6K. You need to speak with multiple contractors and push for itemized quotes. $35K is a big number in my opinion.

Not bad for this area, espeically with plumbing and moving walls. They'll need permits, and also the work is not simple.

You can probably save money by going to separate vendors for each, if you dont' mind coordinating with all of them, and be prepared for each to point the finger at the other when something doesn't work out.

Was that all labor? Get more quotes and ask for some itemization like: demolition, moving wall, moving plumbing etc.

I have a ok kitchen but don't have any space for eating area. There is a laundry room next to the kitchen. I plan on moving the laundry to the garage then take down the wall to make room for breakfast nook. I received an estimate of $35000.00. Also I have to pay more for materials like kitchen cabinets. This price seems very expensive to me. So my question to everyone, is it worth spending this kind of money?
