What about the Rick Riordan series?
My son loved Harry Potter in 2nd grade. This is a kid who could not watch finding memo because it was so dark and sad. The real beauty of Harry Potter is that the book goes through great lengths to talk about how scared Harry and his friends are and how despite those fears they are heroes. I truly believe it w far more beneficial to my son than months worth of CBT to reduce anxiety. Jk Rowling does a wonderful job of balancing dark with humor and love.
I am not saying that all 2 nod graders should read it. Know your kid. But it was a winner in my book
There are no other books that compare, but the Percy Jackson books plus the second series after it held my sons interest.
