Last week, I took my one-year-old to Blue Igloo Playgroup at the corner of 26th and P. I parked my car outside of 2505 P Street around 10:30 a.m. I STUPIDLY, left my bag in my car (b/c quite frankly, I was tired, sick, and bringing my handbag wasn't part of my normal routine). I returned to my car at around 11:50 a.m. only to find my window smashed in and my handbag gone. One of my first feelings was, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER b/c I had heard about the incident involving the woman, her child, and the teenagers who had broken her sunroof just a couple of weeks before.
What was surprising to me was that there were LOTS of people around. There has actually been a lot of street construction at the corner of P and 26th for at least a couple of weeks. In addition, the owner of the house at 2505 P Street eventually came out, and it turns out that she had a contractor doing work inside her house, with workers coming and going.
After mulling over it all a bit, I did a little research RE the earlier incident, and I was quite surprised to learn that there was a thread on this board in which some people suggested that the incident never occurred b/c they found it quite unbelievable that it could occur w/all the people coming and going in Georgetown. Well, I wanted to pass on the message that this sort of stuff DOES occur in Georgetown. In fact, to the non-believers, I suggest you do some research about a gang of teenagers that stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise--in what was described as a "flash mob"--last year from the True Religion store on M Street.
Be careful! Happy holidays...
