Newsflash OP. Sometimes you have to accept that you are in the wrong. The guy was not rude at all. YOU were. Hopefully your delicate and super sensitive self can surely understand that people get annoyed with good reason, not because they are rude or meaN.

You need to change your perspective, stat. Being nice means nothing to most people here; and they take it the wrong way, because they are not accustomed to it. It is a cultural difference. Get over it. Where are you from OP?

I don't think he was rude, I think you were rude for letting your dog take a dump in his yard.

Yes it's rude to let your dog shit in someone's yard. Even when you collect it leaves a residue. Plus other dogs smell it and now they need to mark their territory to over rule your dog. That may or may not be why he was irritated. Maybe he had car problems. Maybe his wife is mad at him about yard work. Maybe he's an introvert and doesn't like being forced into talking to strangers when he's minding his own business on his own driveway. Who knows.

It was rude of you to let your dog poop on somebody's front lawn. Do it on the sidewalk side.

There is no rule or law. In fact, it was probably on VDOT property (depending on the circumstances). I would add, his lawn probably sucks. But so doe snis attitude, and you are thereby excused, OP.

An awful lot of people in this area have control issues - attributed almost solely to their distinct lack of control in their lives. They know they will never have control, and it really sets them off. Not your problem.

Laws aside, I think it was a bit rude to let your dog poop on his lawn, although you definitely get points for picking it up.

He wasn't rude. My kids play, sit, do gymnastics, etc., on our front lawn. I'd prefer (as would they) that they not touch shit remnants. He was just asking that you encourage your dog to shit places other than his property. That's not rude, regardless of what the law might be.

And it's irrelevant whether it's close to the sidewalk - if it's not public property, then it's not public property.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this. I was walking my dogs with my husband today, we slowed down for a sec, there was a guy in his driveway, I said a nice Hello, he answered back in a sorta of annoyed voice, then 1 sec later one of my dogs (my husband is walking it) squats down to poop on his lawn (about 10 inches next to the sidewalk, so barely into his lawn). Then he says to me "I'd appreciate it if you don't let this dog do this here", and then 1 sec later my husband went to pick it up. We always pick up. So I am wondering if the guy didn't think we were going to pick it up because he did not say anything after he saw my husband collect the poop. We just walked away, I said that I didn't think he would poop because he had just done it 5 minutes earlier. I wonder, in VA, what is the rule about dogs going on other people's front lawns. Also, if I collect, is it still an issue? And laws aside for a sec, was this a bit rude and uncalled for from this guy given that we collected it and that the pooping happened just one step away from the sidewalk? Thanks
