We moved our older child from Langley to the local public, mostly because of the math instruction last year. At the public, DC was put in a higher grade for math and is feeling challenged. But in many ways, we miss Langley (music and art, personal attention) and are considering a move back. We are still in touch with parents from DC's Langley class and understand that the school has hired a new math resource teacher.

OP here. Thank you for the info. I'm encouraged to hear they are considering some changes to the math curriculum. I toured Friday and was very impressed with the school. Fingers crossed we nab a coveted spot.

22:09 here. My Langley child is very strong in math in the lower school (but is weaker in writing). A little bored at times during math. But the teacher knows this and has them help other students sometimes or explain difficult problems. It has been an opportunity for them to show leadership, which has been nice since self-esteem has been an issue for them. We are looking forward to the 5th grade advanced class, but in the meantime our child is learning other things besides just math. Langley focuses on the emotional side of the kids too.

Langley is doing an extensive review of the math program based on parent feedback. They also hired a director of curriculum this fall- a brand new position- and I'm sure a revamp of the math program is one of his priorities.

I anticipate we will see a lot of changes next year. So far, the math has been fine for your average to above average student but I've heard complaints that it's not cutting it for those who are very strong in math. DD struggles in math so she's been staying afterschool for the last few years on Mondays for assistance. It's been very helpful for her.

They have hired additional experts in the math resource department so they are certainly setting themselves up for more opportunities for differentiation.

They use Go Math--and also bring in elements of other programs for certain areas. They also have a math specialist for lower school (1st grade+)

Yes Go Math. No major differentiation, but there are only about 17 kids per class. Extra help is offered Monday after school. In 5th grade and over they have advanced math sections. Also they have STEM challenges and occassional class challenge problems.

Pretty sure they use Go Math. First grade has no differentiation though there is always support for those struggling. I think same is true at slightly older-4th/5th.

What grade?

Does Langley use Everyday Math, Singapore, a mix, or a different method altogether? Do they differentiate if the children need to challenged or require additional assistance? TIA
