My guess is that at 17, your disapproval won't do much if DH doesn't think it's a big deal. I would just educate DS on the health aspects and let him make his own decisions.

Yea, another vote for this. I agree this is a stupid thing for your son to do, OP, but you are not going to win this fight.

Tobacco and opiates.

I would not be okay with this even if it were just tobacco.

I'm assuming your DH is from somewhere hookahs are the cultural norm? If not, he needs to get a clue and stop trying to be the "cool dad."

Opiates? Of course not. It's flavoured tobacco.

I couldn't really tell my 17 year old not to do this because I was doing it at 18 anyways. In the grand scheme of things it's harmless.

Tobacco isn't harmless in the grand scheme of things.

It's usually tobacco and he can't since he's 17.

I wouldnt be comfortable with it either, OP. But I agree with the poster above me. I think the most you can do is not allow it in your house and educate him on the health aspects.

DS is 17 and he and his friends often smoke on the weekends. He's a good kid, good grades, no problems but I'm not sure about this...
