I'm at Van Ness and count 17 or 18 Brent in-boundary kids in PreS3. Remember that more than 40 in-boundary kids were turned away for PreK3, and Van Ness is just six blocks from Brent. Some of us live closer to Van Ness than Brent!! Anybody's guess how many of these families actually return to Brent for K. I'd wager around two-thirds.

From where exactly did this "data"originate? I am aware of Ward attendance figures but this is a new one. Unless someone on DCUM is throwing crap but speaking with authority as if "their opinion" or "what they heard" is a fact???!!!

Then you better get a good number else you can go visit these kids and their slot.


What a profound observation. OP is well within her right to take a spot at one of these schools, but she can also consider her fellow residents, not to mention the schools.


So she should prioritize someone else's kid over her own? Show me how that's responsible. Oh,and there's no evidence that them leaving your school hurts the school they left. Causation vs. correlation, my dear.

This is a great question. I would say that you should Brent #1 on your list and have a backup like Van Ness be #2 on your list.

I don't think it's a silly question, but I agree that no one is likely to have a good answer right now. The situation may not be as bad as last year because there shouldn't be as many new inbounds kindergarteners pulling their younger siblings in with them because most of the inbounds K cohort for next year is already at the school. That being said, your very best scenario probably isn't even a 50 percent chance. Have a backup plan!

No one knows for sure how many siblings there are, so, with all due respect, your question is kind of silly. They waitlisted 9 IB w/sib last year, but year before that they accepted kids who were only IB. So, in short, who knows. Best bet is look at past year results and try and make educated guess.
