Are earth tones still represented?

Probably too much in the hand me down camp, but check eBay for clothes from a few seasons ago when the colors you like to dress your children in were trendy.

I was born in the early 70s.

All my baby clothes and toddler clothes were ugly, heavy polyester fabrics, unpleasant patterns, nasty 70s colors.

When we sorted through our baby clothes years later, all of my sisters (born mid-late 60s and later 70s) had beautiful baby and toddler clothing, especially the one born during the 60s. We laughed so hard as we went through thes boxes. No one had to spend even a second trying to figure out which clothes belonged to me. All the ugly (fashionable for the times) clothes went right into my pile, while they debated and looked through old albums to figure out if the dainty yellow floral sundress and bonnet went to big or little sister.

The funny thing is, my stuff was in the best condition, because it was only used for me during that window when ugliness was fasionable. All of the pretty clothing got lots of use between my sisters who were born during better fashion cycles.

Hipsters, for the sake of your children please rebel against this unfortunate fashion trend! You can still be urban and cool and all of that other stuff you are trying to project while dressing your babies in adorable clothing that will stand the test of time. Please do not repeat the mistakes of the early 70s, the most blighted time in fashion history.

If you are looking for a more traditional look, then I recommend Bella Bliss. You have to shop on-line unless you can locate a rep in your area and/or attend one of the seasonal line introduction parties. The clothes are more expensive that the Gap, but not crazy. I highly recommend ordering from their sale section on line. I also find lots of Ralph Lauren clothes (among other brands) on sale either on-line or at TJMaxx and Marshalls. JCrew has traditional clothes with a modern twist and they have great sales also. I find to get nice clothes at reasonable prices you have to shop around and look for deals. I often have clothes that I have found great deals on in a size or two above where my chid is now stored under their bed. This way I have stuff ready (that I got a good deal on) when they grow into it and don't have to race out and buy clothes for that moment. Hope that helps!

DD has blue cords already, thanks, and tons of navy in general, but doesn't look good in gray or orange or muted colors generally, and DS has lots of blue and gray, but orange is a no on him too. I just want more variety, but those are some good suggestions above (not yours). Looking for some preppier options but that seems not to be a thing right now, I guess. J Crew had nothing, Mini Boden is sold out of everything I liked, Hanna was all weird muted colors except for a few PJs, etc. Anyway. Off to CHildren's Place I go!

what's wrong with blue and gray? I find it a refreshing change from pink and purple. PP above gave some good options and I'll add the gap but I did see a dress and shirt with bunnies and junk on them so that might fall under the woodland crap you hate. And they had blue cords for girls. Oh no!

I don't know where you are shopping, but Gymboree, Children's Place, Osk Kosh, and Target all have cute, colorful toddler clothes.

(And don't even get me started on crochet.)
