I disagree that it's rude. If it were rude then it would also be rude to "only" be inviting the kids we're inviting instead of the whole class. Or the whole grade. Or the whole school. Where does it end? Who decides that?

Its super rude. If you're going to do that, do not let the uninvited and their parents know. God some people will never learn.

Maybe you've never had that many kids spend the night? They never sleep through the night. It ends up being completely exhausting. Let it go, OP.

I seriously can't believe our neighbor - she has a party with 14 kids and then invites 6 of them to spend the night. My son was not one- which is fine because they aren't super close friends. But he said they had pizza ---the cake and presents were right there--- but the mom said they were taking those home for the slumber party.
I think that is the rudest! my son had actually requested the same on his 9th birthday - but he was 9 - she's 40!!! My son wanted slumber party but we had 12 kids at big party so I said too many to spend the night. So either small group for slumber or big party and that there would be incredibly unkind to have some kids stay the night. That's basically ranking the ones you really like! So he opted for big party.
He's not upset not really thinking about it but I think that's crap to do. All the kids that went home knew the others were staying night - opening their gifts without them even there.
