Would not call many of the student "disadvantaged" but definitely they are not wealthy to pay full boat at the Ivies and other top schools. They re dependent on good merit aid packages. if those don't materialize, they "fall back" to UVA etc. Graduates of TJ are virtually guaranteed admission to UA and W&M.

Probably not many. But those who fall into that category will get great financial aid from Ivies etc.
Families who do not so qualify but who cannot pay full sticker price will not be able to send their kids to such schools, unless they are willing to take on significant debt to do so.

This doesn't make sense. The cost is really not an issue for low income families at the very top schools. If you are a stellar student, it is to your advantage to be in the low income status. Harvard will give you a full ride if you qualify.
It's the families in the middle who cannot afford e.g. Harvard or MIT. Our HHI is $230K and with two college-bound kids, we cannot pay $65k/year/kid x 8 years. Not possible. Our kid will wind up at a state school or someplace that gives him merit aid bc Harvard and MIT et al do not give merit or financial aid to families like us.

My kid was a member of the class of 2015 and almost all other seniors he knew at TJ ended up going to colleges that offered the most money including my kid.
