You could also go to Murren, which is amazing.

If you dont ski, you could spend a day in Lausanne (eat in Ouchy on Lake Geneva at Hotel du Port or the famous Beau-Rivage restaurant and hotel (peace and nuclear treaties negotiated here) and visit the Olympic Museum (7 minute walk from Ouchy).

You could also venture to Chateau Chillon, one of the best preserved chateaus in Switerzerland. Chateau Chillon is on Lake Geneva and near Monteaux.

I would avoid Gstaad. It is in Europe and might be subject to terrorist attack....

I've always wanted to do the Glacier Express.

Thanks for the info - he will be based in Bern for the weeks he is there which is why we chose Gstaad since its an hour and a half away. Is there another thing we should do in Feb other than ski? We both enjoy skiing but aren't amazing.

Have fun in Gstaad. Can't provide any hotel recs.

You could do a day trip to Gruyere. Enjoy the chateau and gruyere cheese.

Gstaad is gorgeous, but can be very upper crust in the winter (think Aspen) and priced accordingly. The town itself is TINY, so you'll be able to see all of it in a weekend - pick a great hotel and enjoy!
